Books of Distinction (BOD) was a marketing and promotion campaign in which books from publishers in the U.S.A. and the U.K. benefited from a supplemental promotion and marketing program funded by the John Templeton Foundation and managed by Templeton Press.

BOD was the brainchild of Sir John Templeton. At a time when most publishers cut back on their campaigns, Sir John wanted to call attention and provide marketing support to books written by Templeton Foundation advisors that expanded spiritual information.

Books were selected by a panel from the Templeton Press. Criteria included but was not limited to: the authors were well credentialed; the book was scholarly and well researched; and the subject matter related to the mission of the John Templeton Foundation. The selected books were grouped in the following categories:

• Spirituality and Health
• Religion
• Psychology
• Science
