Extremely Cool Volcano Science Project

Procedural memory holds the key to the treasure chest of branding.

Branding isn’t simple name recognition.

  • Harley-Davidson: Rugged individualism, freedom, confidence, toughness.
  • Apple: Innovation, imagination, energy, art.

Working Memory

Working memory is the most shallow level of memory. Working memory is short-term and electrical.

Working memory has three components, or functions: 1) visuospatial sketchpad, 2) articulatory loop, and 3) the central executive.

When you go to sleep, working memory is erased.

Declarative Memory

The intermediate level of memory, declarative memory, stores memories which can be consciously recalled, such as facts and events.

Declarative memory is divided into two categories: semantic memory, or factual information, and episodic memory, which stores specific personal experiences.

Procedural Memory

Procedural memory is the third and deepest level of memory. Long-term, chemical, involuntary, and automatic, procedural memory consists of three categories:

  • Emotional associations

Procedural memory is the product of salience, or relevance, multiplied by repetition. Information of extremely high salience can be implanted into procedural memory with a repetition factor of only one (think 9/11/01).

“Branding is the implantation of an associative memory with a recall cue. Increase your salience. Adrenaline is the bio-chemical adhesive that switches electrical, short-term memory to chemical, long-term memory.

Your child’s school science project is due on Monday. Quick science projects often don’t meet the requirements of the teacher or the school hosting the science fair.

  • Find out your school’s criteria for the project.
  • Let your child make the decisions. They are the ones turning in the project, you know!

Science Fiction Books: Unlimited Thrill, Unlimited Entertaining

Paco Underhill published his book “Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping” in 1999.

Underhill’s book certainly opened my eyes to what retailers know and do not know about what makes people buy.

Review of “Why We Buy – The Science of Shopping”

The umbrella term “Science fiction” covers fictional books from a wide spectrum of genres. One major factor behind the unprecedented popularity of science fiction books is the springing up of these book publishing houses. Again the credit for this paradigmatic shift – from traditional science fiction mediums to science fiction books – goes to the massive publishing drive. The easy availability of highly affordable science fiction books has encouraged people to buy greater numbers of these fiction books. The pace at which whole volumes of fiction books are vanishing off the shelves in bookstores points to the growing interest in science fiction.
